Bob Lesslie shares memorabilia from his baseball career

The #1 pick in the 1972 draft, Bob Lesslie pitched six seasons in the Dodgers and Angels organizations. His best season was 1975, when he went 15-8 with a 2.19 ERA for the Waterbury Dodgers. Overall, in 151 minor league games, he went 56-56 with a 3.57 ERA. He is now the owner of Lesslie Consulting in Town and Country, MO, which specializes in insurance brokerage and risk management services. I asked him about his baseball card experiences and he kindly sent me a lot of photos and news clippings from his playing days. Fans of the 1970's Dodgers will particularly enjoy these.

"I am the only #1 LA Dodger MLB draft pick in history.1st Player picked 1st round 1972 June Secondary MLB Draft. This article is currently on google Dodger Draft pick history."

Thanks! Here is a card of him from my collection, from the 1975 TCMA Waterbury Dodgers set. I recently acquired a large lot of 1970s/early 1980s minor league sets and will share more in future posts.

  1. This guy showed up just before I was paying attention to Dodgers minor leaguers. Don't remember the name.

  3. good stuff. sounds like he got close to a call-up, but it wasn't meant to be. the dodgers should have had the #1 pick again back when arod went number one to the mariners but the dumb al/nl alternating rule was in effect.
