1981 Topps Bruce Benedict

The front: Simple, effective spring training batting pose.

The back: Dave Benedict pitched in the Yankees and Cardinals organizations from 1950 to 1959.
The player: Benedict was a defense-first catcher, a two-time All-Star based mainly on his prowess at throwing out baserunners. Benedict’s development allowed the Braves to move Dale Murphy out from behind the plate into the outfield. In 982 games over 12 seasons, all with the Braves, he hit .242 with 18 HR and 260 RBI.

The man: Benedict has been officiating basketball games since his playing days, and is currently a Division I NCAA referee. He is also a scout for the White Sox.

My collection: I have 34 of his cards, from 1979 to 1990. I would be interested in trading for 1986 Atlanta Braves Police #20.

Vintage backgrounds: Connie Mack Stadium?

Here is Adolpho Phillips at what I assume is Connie Mack Stadium in Philadelphia.
Here is Larry Dierker at another National League ballpark with red seats. Is this also Connie Mack? or another location?

1981 Topps Rich Wortham

The front: Great spring training action shot. Really showcases that unique White Sox uniform.

The back: Wortham was elected to the College Baseball Hall of Fame in 2010. Don Heinkel broke his victories mark in 1982 with 51; that record still stands.
The player: Wortham’s career was almost over at this point; he only appeared in one more big league game, for Oakland in 1983.

Where he is now: He is executive director of the Texas Beef Council.

My collection: I have four of his cards, from 1980 and 1981. I would be interested in trading for 1982 TCMA Reading Phillies #10.
