1981 Topps Dennis Lamp

The front: Lamp must have gotten contact lenses after the 1980 seasons. He had glasses on all of his cards up to that point, and none after.

The back: In Lamp's major league debut, he gave up 5 earned runs in 5.2 innings against the Dodgers, earning the loss. However, Lamp was 2-for-2 at the plate, with two singles off of Rick Rhoden. For his career he hit .164, OK for a pitcher.

The player: Dennis Lamp was a solid, but unspectacular starter for both Chicago teams in the late 1970s and early 1980s. The White Sox converted him to a reliever, and he became one of the best middle-to-short relievers of the mid-1980s. He saved 15 games for the White Sox in 1983, and went 11-0 for the Blue Jays in 1985, helping both teams to division titles. For his career, Lamp pitched in 639 games (136 starts) and went 96-96 with 35 saves and a 3.93 ERA.

The man: After his career he worked at his family's staffing business as well as a high-end seafood store in California. He is now retired.

My collection: I have 46 of his cards, from 1978 to 1992. I would be interested in trading for 1978 SSPC #260.
