Art on the back: 1971 Topps football

The cartoons in the 1971 Topps set are fun, though small as there is a lot going on with the backs in this set. Most of the cartoons have to do with the player's off-field life, which usually produces the best cartoon content.

I don't have a whole lot from this set, but was able to pick out plenty of fun cartoons.

That's Charley (not Charlie) Taylor owning the mod clothing shop.

Another mod clothing store! Dick Post must be the NFL's answer to baseball's Dick Pole.

This would appear to be an error card. Presumably the cartoon is referring to either the mayor of San Diego or the governor of California, not the mayor of San Diego.

  1. My new goal in life: to be the governor of a city :)
