Cards and vintage stuff: May 18-20, 1965

News headlines May 18-20, 1965 included fighting in Vietnam and the Dominican Republic, while a plane crash in Egypt killed 134 people. In the US, President Johnson launched Project Head Start.

I love the design of this matchbook printed for the Material Handling Institute's Great Lakes Show. The Materials Handling Institute is an organization of supply chain professionals that was incorporate in 1945.

While the Material Handlers were meeting at the Cleveland Convention Center, the Indians were having a nice time at home, sweeping the Orioles. (Largely forgotten today, the '65 Indians won 87 games, a number the team wouldn't top for thirty years.) In that three game series, Chuck Hinton got two hits. One drove in the go-ahead run in Cleveland's 2-0 win on the 19th, and the other drove in the game-tying run in Cleveland's 5-2 win on the 20th.

  1. That fact about them taking 30 years to top the 87 win mark again is pretty interesting.
