Last time 1962 won, 4-2. Will 1987 come out on top this time?
Simple hatless headshot for Bob Lillis of the expansion Houston Colts. Lillis originally came up with the Dodgers in '58, and became a regular for the Cardinals when they acquired him in mid-'61. An expansion draft pick for Houston, he was the team's first regular shortstop until Sonny Jackson arrived in '66. Overall, in 817 games he hit .236 with 3 HR and 137 RBI. After his 1967 retirement, he stayed in the Astros organization as a scout, coach and eventually manager. After he was fired in '85 he became a Giants coach for 12 more years. He is now retired and living in California.
Dan Pasqua gets a somewhat unique shot, showing him batting from behind. Pasqua, a lefty slugger with a swing made for Yankee Stadium, hit 42 home runs in just 746 at bats for the Yankees between 1985 and 1987, when the Yankees dealt him to the White Sox in the ill-fated trade for Richard Dotson. He retired in 1994 with 117 major league home runs. He is now a youth baseball coach in Chicago and a community representative for the White Sox. In 2010 he shared his thoughts on baseball cards with this blog.
1987 Pasqua.
ReplyDeleteI'll go with Pasqua, too. You've got the pinstripes, plus some dirt on the uniform.
ReplyDeleteYeah, the '62 is pretty dull (although you have to like that it says "Houston Colts"), and points for a card which shows the player from behind but still gets his face in clearly. Pasqua gets the vote.
