Larry Demery's glove has something written on it - looks like "JAPO 44". Demery was #44, I don't know if Japo was a nickname or something?
Speaking of Blue, I had to include this card where he wrote his name on his undershirt.
Moving on to the usual parade of stolen bats, starting with Blue's teammate Matt Alexander, #2, who has the bat of #3, Rodney Scott.
#15 Ike Hampton borrowed the powerful bat of #12 Don Baylor.
Finally, #23 Jerry Mumphrey grabbed a couple of bats for his shot. Clearly visible is bat #44, which belonged to Ken Reitz.
Ha! I was just looking at my 1978 cards this past weekend, saw the Blue, and thought how it would be a great card for your series!
ReplyDeleteI love those 78's. It is interesting how players probably just grabbed or were loaned equipment for photos.
ReplyDeleteLarry looks like he might just be under the influence of something. Of course, given the timeframe, and the team, that wouldn't be very surprising.
