Keil Lock was a major lock and key manufacturer in the US in the early- and mid-twentieth century. The company seems to have gone out of business in the 1960s or 1970s. Their well-known key-shaped signs often show up in antique auctions. One such sign can be found hanging from the awning of Lexington Hardware, at 797 Lexington Avenue. Vintage Image NY dates this sign back to the 1940s.
A 1940 Manhattan tax photo of the address shows a similar-looking sign in the window of the store. Could it be the same one?
