The front: Great to see an action shot, even if it’s a bit
of an awkward swing. Looks like Shea Stadium. Evans played in four day games at
Shea in 1980, getting three hits in seven at-bats.
The back: Evans briefly quit baseball for tennis after the
Padres sent him to the minor leagues in July. Here is a story about the time
Evans wore a fake Brinks guard outfit to help some friends temporarily steal
the Davis Cup.
The player: A backup third baseman, Evans played in 224
games for the Padres and Yankees from 1978 to 1982. In 224 games, he hit .251
with 2 HR and 41 RBI.
The man: Other than the Davis Cup story, I couldn’t find
anything interesting on Evans, including whatever he is doing now.
My collection: I have five of his cards, from 1981 and 1982.
I would be interested in trading for 1983 TCMA Columbus Clippers #19.
