Player Profile: Antonio Bastardo

I have one card of Antonio Bastardo, from 2012 Topps.

Playing career: Antonio Bastardo came up with the Phillies in 2009 and has become a mainstay in their bullpen. He had a great 2011 (6-1, 8 saves, 2.64 ERA) but struggled a bit in 2012 (2-5, 1 save, 4.33 ERA).

Where he is now: This season he was 3-2 with two saves and a 2.32 ERA. He was suspended for the rest of the season earlier this week as part of the Biogenesis scandal.

My memories: I remember hearing about his name. What a funny, but kind of awful name, to have to be saddled with in an English-speaking country.

Google Autocomplete results: He is fourth when you type Antonio Ba, between Antonio Banderas movies, referring to an actor, and Antonio Ballatore, winner of the fourth season of the HGTV game show Design Star.

Coming up next: The next profile will be Fred Bastardo.
