Some more free cards from Johnny's Trading Spot! Always happy to take free Yankees, even halfway through a disappointing season where they are a game above last place, and just hired the manager's old buddy, with no prior experience, as their new hitting coach.
Without Gerrit Cole the Yankees would be below .500 for sure. Deivi Garcia has only pitched in two games, but he might be back with the club soon. Nice black parallel there.
The nice thing about retired players is that their story is done and you can just enjoy their accomplishments. Though there probably isn't anyone alive who remembers Cedric Durt's surprise heroics in the 1928 World Series, that 1979 TCMA card is really cool. And it's always lucky to get a Mickey Mantle card. I know, because it says that on the back of the card. ("As long as baseball cards have been collectibles, Mantle has been a holy-grail hit. So consider yourself lucky.")
That's what it says on the back of the Mantle card? Oh man, Panini's really not caring about the card backs.
ReplyDeleteThe Stanton action shot wins this round.
ReplyDeleteAs much as I dislike the Yankees... I've been quietly cheering for Cole. Been a fan of his since his days with the Pirates. Very happy he got the start in last night's game.
ReplyDeleteI hope Panini wasn't trying to imply that someday their cards of Mantle will be highly coveted as well. If so, I'd advise them not to hold their breath.
