The card, in brief: We have an upside down 28 and a right-side up 28 on this card. Lum wore the number all 12 seasons he played for the Braves.
The player, in brief: Lum was a semi-regular outfielder for the Braves from 1967 to 1975. His best season by far was 1973, when he hit .294 with 16 HR and 62 RBI. He was traded to the Reds after the 1975 season and won his only World Series ring as a reserve. His last US major league season was 1981, though he played in Japan in 1982.
Post career, in brief: Lum was a minor league coach for almost 40 years, retiring from the Pirates organization after the 2020 season.
My collection: I have 23 of his cards, from 1969 to 1982. I would be interested in trading for 1968 Topps #579.
I remember him well. Nice to see he had a very long lifelong career in baseball.
