Cake or Gum? 1975 Ted Sizemore

Last time cake won 6-3, for the second straight time. Who will win this time?

These two photos seem to have been taken in the same shoot, presumably in spring training. Topps went for a more cropped version but still managed to get a player in the background.

Second baseman Ted Sizemore won the NL Rookie of the Year award in 1969 with the Dodgers, hitting.271 with 20 doubles, 4 HR and 46 RBI. Throughout the 1970s he consistently put up similar numbers, hitting for a fairly high average with doubles power, while playing a competent second base. He spent most of the decade with the Cardinals, and also spent time with the Phillies, Cubs and Red Sox. Overall, in 1,411 games, hitting .262 with 188 doubles, 23 HR and 430 RBI. After his career he was a long-time executive for Rawlings, and served as CEO of the Baseball Assistance Team for many years. He is now retired.

  1. I agree that the photos were probably from the same session. Not a huge difference, but I'll vote for the Hostess version.

  2. Neither stand out to me. I was leaning towards gum, since I love the 75T design... but my final vote is for cake, because you can see the Cardinals logo in full on Sizemore's jersey. Plus... the rail in the back kind of looks like it's an extension of the Cardinals bat on the jersey.

  6. Gum, easily, this was one of my favorite '75s

  7. I think this'll be the first time in this series that I'm voting for Topps.
