Topps Kids = Fine Art

Topps Kids may have been the first introduction to some famous artists for some kids. I wonder how many first heard of Vincent Van Gogh from this card?


This card is much more subtle. Notice the way the catcher faints.

It is very reminiscent of Frederick Opper, early 20th-century cartoonist most famous for Happy Hooligan. His characters often fell this way, often with the little sound effect. I wonder if the Topps cartoonist was doing this as an homage? Here is the best example I could find on the internet:
