The case of the missing beard

Topps's use of "generic white ballplayer" on its cartoons was not only inaccurate for nonwhite ballplayers. Those with facial hair were also inaccurately portrayed.

For example, Jeff Reardon was well known for his beard. Except by Topps's cartoonist.

The only card I know of where Reardon doesn't have a beard is from his brief time with the Yankees, for whom beards are banned. Still, he kept his mustache, at least.
