Hollywood bit players on baseball cards: Part 20

Today's entry in this series (which I now have added tags for if you want to see older posts), features the ultimate version of a bit player - the stand-in. Today's player stood in for legendary actor Gene Hackman in every one of Hackman's films from 1989 to 2001. He also had bit parts in a few other films. Some of the famous movies he appeared in include Mr. Baseball, Unforgiven, Geronimo, Wyatt Earp, Quick and the Dead, Waterworld, Get Shorty, The Chamber, and The Royal Tenenbaums.

Casey Stengel once famously said of him, when asked to give a scouting report, "we've got a kid here, 20 years old, and in 10 years he's got a chance to be 30." It's former Mets and Pilots catcher Greg Goossen, who certainly had one of the more unusual post-playing careers.

  1. Interesting stuff. I actually think Goossen looks like an older version of John Cena more than he looks like Hackman.
