1981 Topps Oscar Gamble

The front: Gamble’s famous Afro is in full display at Yankee Stadium.

The back: Seven teams in twelve years; two mid-season trades. Gamble moved around a lot.
The player: Gamble was a well-traveled power-hitting OF-DH. In 1,584 games for seven teams, mostly the Yankees, Indians and Phillies, he hit .265 with 200 HR and 666 RBI.

The man: Gamble’s hair may have overshadowed his hitting prowess but he was remembered as a good person who was loved by his teammates and the media.  After his career he became an agent and a youth coach. He died of cancer in 2018.

My collection: I have 28 of his cards, from 1971 to 1985. I would be interested in trading for 1970 Topps #654.
