1981 Topps Miguel Dilone

The front: Dilone caught mid-conversation at Yankee Stadium.

The back: Esix Snead currently holds the Carolina League stolen base record, with 109 for Potomac in 2000.
The player: 1980 was Dilone’s best season, hitting .341 and stealing 61 bases. An outfielder with no power has little value when his speed starts to go, and he bounced around a lot of teams in a short time, playing for five different teams from 1983 to 1985, hitting better than .217 only once. Overall for his career, he hit .265 with 6 HR, 129 RBI and 267 SB. Per Baseball-Reference he had a 3.0 WAR in 1980, and -0.5 for the rest of his career.

The man: After his career he was a youth baseball coach in the Dominican Republic. In 2009 he was struck by a batted ball and lost his eye. Three years later his mother was killed in a home invasion by men who were looking to steal money for drugs.

My collection: I have 17 of his cards, from 1978 to 1985. I would be interested in trading for 1983 Wheaties Indians #NNO.
