The front: Nice action shot. Appears to be a regular season
game and not spring training. Not sure what stadium this is. My first thought
was Philadelphia, but Cruz did not play in a day game there in 1980 (though it
could be an older shot).
The back: Quite an honor considering 1980 was the team’s
first time finishing in first. Cruz’s 91 RBIs led the team, 18 more than
runner-up Cesar Cedeno.
The player: Cruz played in nineteen seasons for the
Cardinals, Astros and Yankees. A two-time All-Star, he had his best seasons in
Houston, including leading the NL in hits in 1983. Overall in 2,353 games he
hit .284 with 165 HR, 1,077 RBI and 317 SB.
The man: Cruz has had a long career in the Astros
organization, currently as special assistant to the general manager.
My collection: I have 40 of his cards, from 1973 to 1988. I
would be interested in trading for 1972 Topps #107 and 1988 Donruss Yankees
Team Collection #NEW.
