The front: As simple a front as you can get. A headshot of
the player with a monochromatic sky behind him.
The back: The wording is a bit awkward. Wilkins actually
lost his first game in the majors (4-11-79). May 10th was his first
big league win.
The player: Wilkins was an odd selection by Topps, as he
pitched in 1979 (and had a card in the 1980 set) but not in 1980. In fact 1979
was his only season in the majors. According to the Lifetime Topps blog,
Wilkins was one of three players to have cards in the ’81 set despite not
playing in the majors in 1980 (the other two are Phil Huffman and Mike
Colbern).
The man: Wilkins has gone on to a long career in the call
center field. He is currently Workforce Management Team for call centers for
Premera Blue Cross in Mountlake Terrace, WA.
My collection: I have two of his cards, 1980 and 1981 Topps.
I would be interested in trading for 1981 TCMA Charleston Charlies #6.
