The front: Simple, effective spring training batting pose.
The back: Dave Benedict pitched in the Yankees and Cardinals
organizations from 1950 to 1959.
The player: Benedict was a defense-first catcher, a two-time
All-Star based mainly on his prowess at throwing out baserunners. Benedict’s
development allowed the Braves to move Dale Murphy out from behind the plate
into the outfield. In 982 games over 12 seasons, all with the Braves, he hit
.242 with 18 HR and 260 RBI.
The man: Benedict has been officiating basketball games
since his playing days, and is currently a Division I NCAA referee. He is also
a scout for the White Sox.
My collection: I have 34 of his cards, from 1979 to 1990. I
would be interested in trading for 1986 Atlanta Braves Police #20.
