Player Profile: Russell Branyan

I have 23 cards of Russell Branyan. This one is from 2007 Upper Deck.

Playing career: First baseman Russell Branyan played fourteen seasons in the major leagues from 2008 to 2011 for ten different teams, primarily the Indians and Brewers. In 1,059 games he hit .232 with 194 HR and 467 RBI.

Where he is now: Split 2014 between the Mexican League and a brief appearance for the Indians’ AAA team.

Interesting facts: Arrested in 2008 for domestic violence after injuring his wife during an argument.

My memories: I remember him as a big slugger. I’m surprised he played 14 seasons in the major leagues and didn’t even get to 200 home runs. That is primarily due to his low batting average – he often struggled to get over the Mendoza line, and so he rarely got more than 200 at-bats in a season.

Google Autocomplete results: He is first when you type Russell Brany. There do not appear to be any other prominent Russell Branyans.

Coming up next: The next profile will be Randy Braun.
