Player Profile: Pedro Borbon Jr.

I have three cards of Pedro Borbon Jr. This one is from 1994 Stadium Club.

Playing career: The son of a former major league pitcher, Pedro Borbon Jr. Was a key member of the bullpen for the World Champion 1995 Braves, going 2-2 with 2 saves and a 3.09 ERA in 41 games. He pitched two scoreless innings in the postseason. He pitched well in 1996 but injuries derailed his career after that. After missing two full seasons, he came back to pitch for four teams over five years but never duplicated his success in Atlanta.

My memories: I usually think of sons of former MLB’ers playing in the majors as mostly a joke, kind of nepotism, so I don’t expect much from them (except for the ones who are clear talents like Ken Griffey or Moises Alou). So I was surprised to see Borbon excel, at least for a little while.

Where he is now: Anyone know where Pedro Borbon Jr. is now?

Google Autocomplete results: He is third when you type Pedro Bo, between Pedro Boregaard, a jeweler in Narrowburg, NY, and Pedro Botelho, a Brazilian soccer player. There do not appear to be any other prominent Pedro Borbon Jrs.

Coming up next: The next profile will be Joe Borchard.
