Player Profile: Rick A. Anderson

The latest This Week in Baseball Cards is up at the Hall of Very Good. I look at two Cubs disasters and the wild and wacky 2012 Marlins.

I have four cards of Rick Anderson. This one is from 1987 Fleer.

Playing career: Rick Anderson came up with the 1986 Mets. In 15 games (5 starts) he went 2-1 with a 2.72 ERA. Traded to the Royals for David Cone, he pitched for KC in 1987 and 1988, going 2-3 with a 6.89 ERA.

Where he is now: Pitching coach for the Minnesota Twins.

My memories: I remember the Anderson/Ed Hearn for David Cone trade being considered pretty even at the time, basically a swap of prospects. Turned out the Mets got the better of that deal by far.

Google Autocomplete results: Rick Anderson is ninth when you type Rick An, between Rick Ankiel Stats and Rick Ankiel Pitching Stats, referring to the Nationals outfielder who used to pitch for the Cardinals. The former Met is second when you type Rick Anderson, after a Mississippi artist.

Coming up next: The next profile will be Rick L. Anderson.
