Player Profile: Jason Anderson

I have one card of Jason Anderson, from 2003 Topps Total.

Playing career: Jason Anderson came up with the Yankees in 2003, and was traded to the Mets, making him one of the few players to pitch for both New York teams in one season. He also pitched in one game for the 2004 Indians and resurfaced briefly with the Yankees again in 2005. Overall he was 2-0 with a 6.39 ERA.

My memories: I remember him being pretty good for the Yankees in 2003, but then they went and traded him for Armando Benitez. What a weird year that was – not only was Benitez briefly a Yankee, but so were Jesse Orosco and Dan Miceli.

Where he is now: Anderson signed with the Somerset Patriots but retired in July after the birth of his first child. He is going back to the University of Illinois to complete his business degree.

Google Autocomplete results: He is second when you type Jason An, between Jason and the Argonoauts and Jason and the Golden Fleece, both of which refer to Greek mythology. When you google Jason Anderson, the first two entries are not the ballplayer but a punk rocker in New Hampshire.

Coming up next: The next profile will be Jim Anderson.
