1981 Topps Rick Bosetti

The front: Following through on a swing at Yankee Stadium. Bosetti played in one day game at Yankee Stadium in 1980, an 11-7 Yankees win on June 1. Bosetti was 0-4 with a walk and a run scored, batting second and playing CF.

The back: In addition to putouts and assists, Bosetti also led the league in errors in 1979.
The player: 1979 was Bosetti’s big year. He clashed with Blue Jays management, was traded to the A’s, and was out of the majors after the 1982 season.

The man: On the Cardboard Gods blog I learned that Bosetti was best known during his playing days for his claim to have urinated in every outfield in the American League. After his playing career he became mayor of Redding, CA. One commenter on the Cardboard Gods blog wrote “Good ole Rick is our mayor now and pissing on us!” Though no longer the mayor, Bosetti remains active in local politics and is still a polarizing figure; in May he was assaulted at a public park he was attempting to secure from people illegally using the park. He is also the general manager of the Redding Colt .45s youth team.

My collection: I have nine of his cards, from 1978 to 1982. I would be interested in trading for 1981 O-Pee-Chee #46.

  1. His 1981 Topps card seemed to be in every other pack I bought.
