The front: Having a laugh at Shea Stadium.
The back: Cruz’s only home run in the season came in the
sixth-inning with the Reds down 3-2. The Reds won the nightcap two, with a
three-run home run from George Foster.
The player: Cruz had a solid rookie season at the plate in
1976 but lead the National League in errors by a third baseman. His defensive
difficulties led to a switch to the outfield, but his power bat disappeared
after his rookie year. 1980 was his last big league season.
The man: One of three brothers to play in the major leagues,
the others being Jose Cruz and Tommy Cruz. He was a letter carrier for the USPS
after his baseball career.
My collection: I have ten of his cards, from 1977 to 1982. I
would be interested in trading for 1976 Topps #598.
