The front: Simple spring training shot.
The back: Saucier pitched a scoreless 1.2 innings spread out
over three appearances.
The player: A left-handed relief specialist, Saucier
excelled in the Phillies bullpen in 1979 and 1980, and for the Tigers in 1981.
However, he had a sudden and complete loss of his control that had him out of
baseball soon after.
The man: Saucier reminded Tigers fans of Mark Fidrych with
antics that included talking to himself on the mound and pirouetting off the
mound after a save. However, while Fidrych was an amiable goofball, Saucier was
an intense competitor known for screaming at umpires, earning the nickname “Hot Sauce”. He seems to have mellowed out after his playing career ended, and for
the past 30 years he has been a scout for the Major League Scouting Bureau.
My collection: I have eight of his cards, from 1980 to 1983.
I would be interested in trading for 1982 Fleer Stamps #158.
