A few months ago I acquired two more large collections. And after several months of sorting I now have even more than the 25,000 cards I had to trade. A lot more:
That's six 5,000 count boxes, two 3,200-count boxes and a few smaller boxes - it's about 40,000 cards to trade this time. And while last time was mostly mid-nineties stuff, this is almost all post-2000 cards, and a very large amont of it is from that 2000-2005 time period that is a weak spot in many bloggers' collections. There are full details on what is available at the bottom of this post.
What I plan to do is wait a few days to get any claims in for those that want to participate, then do one huge pass through the boxes to pull cards for everybody. Happy to take requests from set collectors to fill their wantlists or create starter sets, for team collectors, and for mini-collections. For the last two, do let me know if you want me to exclude certain years or sets, so I don't send you 1989 Fleer or 2011 Topps base cards that you already have. I'm very happy to go through people's wantlists if you have them made already. And if someone has already picked your team don't worry, there are many many cards with duplicates, triplicates and more. I would be particularly interested in more traders like Tim Wallach Cards and Willinghammer Rising who collect every copy of the cards of a player - if you are familiar with any other collectors like that do let me know! Very happy to accomodate player collectors too, but the collection is overwhelmingly minor stars and commons, not as many of the Trout/Jeter/Pujols types.
Send in your requests, get into the Little Fun Game (more on that in a moment), then forget about it for a while, because the pulling process will be slow going, and no point in you putting your return package together until you have some idea on what you are getting back.
This trade-a-thon is open to anyone who is interested, and I hope I get a lot of responses, and even have some new trading buddies. One change from last time, though, is that if I have not traded with you before, I will ask you to send cards to me before I send yours to you. Last time I contacted a lot of bloggers whom I had not traded before, and it was not completely successful as I sent 25 trade packages out and only got 22 in return. One of the delinquents says he is working on a return so I won't mention him for now, but at this point, two-and-a-half years and multiple attempts to contact later, AdamE of Thoughts and Sox and dominicfdny (who does not have a blog) have to be considered bad traders. (Though I will happily remove them from this post if they get in touch with me and have cards ready to send.)
This then brings me to the next part of this post, the Little Fun Game. The Big Fun Games that have been going on throughout the blogosphere have been awesome, but it is amazing to me what people will just get let go in these contests. Cards from the 1950s, autographed cards, and other big-ticket items that are nicer than anything I have to trade, in fact nicer than what I have in my own collection, being given away. That plus the postage costs which must be considerable. I can't do anything like that, but I would like to do something. Hence the Little Fun Game.
The Little Fun Game will be open to anyone who says they want to be included in the Trade-A-Thon between now and Monday at noon EST. Since I will be sending this group packages anyway, the LFG prizes can be included with the trade. While there won't be any big-ticket items, I will find some things that people hopefully will like and even steal, various star cards, oddballs, etc that hopefully people will find fun.
Finally, just like last time I did a complete tabulation of what is in those monster trade boxes, to give you an idea of the types of cards available. I have each set with the approximate number of cards available in each set. If there are only one or two cards in a set I have noted who the player is. I have also noted if the number of cards available is actually greater than the number of cards in the set - like I said, there is a lot of duplication. And while a lot of it is stuff like Bowman Draft, there is also a lot of more-desirable cards like Allen & Ginter and Leaf Certified Materials that are heavily represented as well.

I'm down for some trading. The '81 Fleer interests me, and the '03 Finest looks fun. I'm always looking for Dodgers, but I'm afraid my want list is far from complete after the want list crash.
ReplyDeleteI'm in! I have wantlists up for 10-16 Topps and would take anything in Topps base from 80-86, 88-90, and 93-09. I won't try to claim ALL of that, but anything from those years will be gladly accepted.
ReplyDeleteI am interested in trading for any Griffey cards in the collection, Jay Buhner too. I promise, I will not take so long on the trade package this time.
ReplyDeleteJust shot you an email
ReplyDeletethanks! I'm in for the Tigers. Sending you an email.
ReplyDeleteI can use a bunch of those. Thank you for doing this. Sending an email.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the offer. Night Owl has jumped in on the Dodgers, but I'll take any Dodgers you don't send to him, and I'll shoot an email with some other particulars. A Little Fun Game sounds great!
ReplyDeleteI'll grab Jays and Expos you may have. I should also send an email with my 92 Donruss needs in case you might have a couple of them.. lol
ReplyDeleteHi, thanks for emailing me about this. I'm interested in Rockies, anything depicting Coors Field, and any Stadium Club, Fleer Ultra, and Opening Day that isn't otherwise claimed.
ReplyDeleteI am in for Red Sox and catchers. If you have any basketball, I am a Pistons fan.
ReplyDeleteI put together a set wantlist for a couple sets you have: http://rekindlingthecardboardflame.blogspot.com/p/wantlist.html
ReplyDeleteI'd also add: 08 Topps Gold Lettering
Just shot an email back at you. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHopefully I'm not to late to the party in claiming some possible cards. Would have replied sooner, but spent a long weekend at the coast.
ReplyDeleteAll My wants are located at the blog http://theprowlcat.blogspot.com/p/blog-page_10.html
To make it simple though I believe these are the sets on that list.
1995 Studio
2003 Fleer Authentix
2003 Upper Deck MVP
I'll happily take an Astros lot. Mid 90s to 2010 is preferred
