Favorite sports announcer is Harry Caray: Alomar’s first
three years in the major leagues were in the National League so may have gotten
to meet Caray at a Padres-Cubs game.
Favorite players as a kid were his dad, Sandy Alomar Sr. and
Joe Morgan: Roberto was coached by his dad during his time with the Padres. Alomar
ended up having a career that most fans agree was at least as good as, if not
better than, Morgan’s. They appeared on cards together in 2000 Topps Stars and
2003 Fleer Patchworks.
Most prized possession is his World Series ring: Alomar
would win another ring that season.
Might have been a doctor if he hadn’t been an athlete:
Alomar did not go into medicine during his career. He allegedly has medical
issues of his own – he has been accused by multiple women of exposing them to
HIV.
Pet peeves are fighting and jealousy: In addition to the HIV
claims Alomar has been accused of domestic abuse and famously spit on umpire John
Hirschbeck, so I guess at some point that stopped being a pet peeve.
Where he is now: Special consultant on Puerto Rico to Major
League Baseball.
