Dennis Burbank on baseball cards

Dennis Burbank pitched in the Yankees organization in 1991 and 1992. In 66 games he went 8-5 with a 4.53 ERA. Now a Field Director at Northwestern Mutual in Edmond, OK, he kindly answered my questions about baseball cards.

- Do you have any stories about cards of yourself or of other players?

…1st year in pro ball, Oneonta Yankees 1991, I dressed in catchers gear and eye black hoping to take my picture on my first card as a catcher after taking my real card pic as a RHP.  Someone in the front office or at the card company caught it and the card was never published…I got the pitcher card instead.

…to this day I have a set of the “Cape Cod Prospects” from 1988.  At my home, I have a frame with five cards featured – I’m in the center…surrounded by Mo Vaughn, Frank Thomas, Jeff Bagwell and Chuck Knoblauch.  When my friends see it, they ask “where did you get that made…”  Little do my friends know, that Frank Thomas and Jeff Bagwell are probably playing golf somewhere in Florida saying to each other, “what ever happened to that Burbank kid from the Brewster Whitecaps…”

- Do you have a favorite card of yourself or of another player?
…favorite card is from Ft. Lauderdale Yankees, 1992 – rocking the pinstripes and a freshly painted Rawlings Trapeze on my knee with my fiancé/now wife of nearly 24-years, initials and number in silver pen – JJB12!!!

- Do you collect baseball cards?
…I do not collect cards other than a few of myself and my wife Julie (Dobbs) Burbank who started at SS for the University of Oklahoma for 4-years.
Thanks!
