Player Profile: Jermaine Allensworth

I have five cards of Jermaine Allensworth. This one is from 1997 Stadium Club.

Playing career: Jermaine Allensworth was an outfielder for the Pirates, Royals and Mets between 1996 and 1999. He hit .260 and had 42 stolen bases in 342 games.

My memories: I remember him having a reputation as a speedster with the Pirates. I also remembered him as being part of lousy Mets teams but apparently he was actually on the 1999 wild card team (though he hit .219 in 40 games and was not on the playoff roster).

Where he is now: Coaching youth baseball in Bloomington-Normal, IL.

Interesting stories: Tracey Morgan once played him on an episode of SNL. Here is the transcript if you are interested. The joke is that he’s being interviewed by someone who’s not listening to him. Seemed kind of dumb to me but maybe it’s funnier on the screen.

Google Autocomplete results: He is second when you type Jermaine A, between Jermaine Archer, a history professor at SUNY Old Westbury, and Jermaine Andre, an MMA fighter. There do not appear to be any other prominent Jermaine Allensworths.

Coming up next: The next profile will be Dana Allison.
