Player Profile: Jeff Alkire

I have two cards of Jeff Alkire. This one is from 1992 Topps Traded.

Playing career: A member of the 1992 US Olympic Team, Jeff Alkire made his pro debut with the Cardinals’ A ball team in Savannah in 1993, and went 15-6 with a 2.46 ERA. He couldn’t handle the promotion to AA ball, however, going 4-5 with a 6.00 ERA for the Cardinals and Marlins AA ball clubs from 1994 to 1996.

Where he is now: He is head of operations at RepWest, a sales and marketing firm representing plumbing and hydroponics manufacturers founded by his father, Jeff Alkire Sr.. He is also the coach of the Round Table Pizza Orioles of the Folsom, CA Little League.

My memories: Didn’t know of him until I got his card.

Google Autocomplete results: He is first when you type Jeff Alk, before Jeff Alkazian, a marketing consultant. The ballplayer is the fourth result when you type Jeff Alkire; the first three refer to the saxophonist of the same name.

Coming up next: The next profile will be Andy Allanson.
