Player Profile: Andy Allanson

I have 21 cards of Andy Allanson. This one is from 1989 Score.

Playing career: Andy Allanson was the 1986 Topps Rookie Cup winner for catchers, and its hard to see why: .225 BA, 1 HR, 29 RBI. His bat didn’t get much better, but he stuck around for parts of eight seasons, playing for the Angels as late as 1995.

My memories: With that gold rookie cup, I thought of him as part of that amazing 1986 rookie class with Canseco, Tartabull, etc. Of course, it didn’t pan out that way.

Where he is now: Owner of the Antelope Valley Baseball Academy in Lancaster, CA, he is also heavily involved with the local Boys & Girls Club.

Interesting stories: I don’t know if it’s true, but the Baseball Reference Bullpen has some pretty juicy rumors about him. Maybe Allanson and the girl should go on Maury and do a paternity test…

Google Autocomplete results: He is first when you type Andy Alla, before Andy Allen, a Christian recording artist. There do not appear to be any other prominent Andy Allansons.

Coming up next: The next profile will be Brian Allard.
