The front: That giant dark orange batting helmet is a Topps
airbrushing classic.
The back: Woods got an RBI single off of Vida Blue to give
the Astros a 1-0 lead in the first inning. In the eight, an RBI double off of
Blue gave the team a 3-0 lead.
The player: Woods was a backup outfielder for the A’s, Blue
Jays, Astros and Cubs from 1976 to 1985. In 525 games he hit .243 with 13 HR
and 110 RBIs.
The man: Woods was a longtime youth coach and professional
scout. He was employed as a scout by the White Sox when he died of a heart
attack in 2015.
My collection: I have 18 of his cards, from 1977 to 1986. I
would be interested in trading for 1977 O-Pee-Chee #22.
