1981 Topps Jeff Burroughs

The front: Nice action shot at Shea Stadium. Burroughs has already gotten his uniform dirty. Burroughs played in three day games in Shea that year so can’t pin down a date.

The back: The streak was April 23-26 against the Padres and Giants. The streak including three doubles and a home run.

The player: The first overall pick in the 1969 draft, Burroughs lived up to the hype with four great seasons in five years from 1974 to 1978. By 1981 he was starting to move to more of a pinch-hitter/part-time OF/DH role, which he performed for Seattle, Oakland and Toronto through 1985. Burroughs hit 240 home runs over his 16-year big league career.

The man: Burroughs became a highly successful little league coach, winning the Little League World Series with Long Beach in 1992 and 1993. Among the future major leaguers he coached were Chase Utley and his own son, Sean Burroughs. He appears to be retired now.

My collection: I have 28 of his cards, from 1973 to 1986. I would be interested in trading for 1972 Topps #191.
