The front: Adams is looking off-camera at something over the
photographer’s right shoulder. Appears to be Yankee Stadium.
The back: Adams’s 1974 PCL batting crown is remarkable as he
had been released by the Astros organization after the 1971 season. He missed
all of 1972 but had a comeback attempt with the Giants organization in 1973
that led to an eight year major league career.
The player: 1981 would be Adams’s last year in Minnesota; he
played briefly for the Blue Jays in 1982 before ending his career. In eight
major league seasons, he hit .280 with 34 HR and 225 RBI in 661 games, pretty
good for a guy whose career seemed over after four minor league seasons.
The man: Adams was a minor league manager for many years but
now appears to be retired.
My collection: I have ten of his cards, from 1978 to 1983. I
would be interested in trading for 1976 Topps #389.
