Overpaying for vintage cards, part III

This group was probably my nadir for being careful about spending. I've tried to be more methodical, though it's still surprisingly easy to pick up vintage stars in the $5-10 range, rather than $0.25-$0.50.

It's too too easy to rack up those kind of cards in the Greg Morris auctions. 27 cards at good prices is still breaking $100. I managed to corral it better this past Friday. Not as much as I'd hoped but better. This round: 1954 Bowman McDougald ($1). 1955 Bowman Reese ($7).1953 Rizzuto ($13, most expensive one but worth it for Scooter). 1962 Post Cepeda ($2). 1963 Post Cepeda ($1). 1963 Post Banks ($2). 1957 Slaughter ($5, probably too much and a weird purple tint). 1958 Drysdale ($10, probably too much); 1959 Hodges ($4). 1961 Koufax/Podres ($6). 1962 Robin Roberts Yankees zero-year card ($2). 1964 Killebrew/Fox ($2). 1965 RBI Leaders ($13, probably too much but anything with Mantle is tricky); Murakami ($6, it's surprisingly tough to get); Stengel ($2); McCovey ($3). 1966 Kaline ($7, too much but a nice Yankee Stadium photo); Hodges ($1), Bunning ($3 and a great Connie Mack Stadium shot); Oliva ($4).1967 Drysdale ($4); Jenkins ($4); Perry ($3); Williams ($2). 1970 Seaver ($3); Palmer ($2); Fingers ($2). 1968 Rose game card ($6, probably too much even for Rose).

$9 not too bad for this card. All-time great pitcher and maybe the best water fountain card ever?

1957 Hodges $3. I don't mind the trimming here. Red number on his uniform looks different than the usual design.

$9 for a card with three HOFers - that's only $3 per, right? Hodges again along with Roy Campanella and Duke Snider. Carl Furillo no slouch either.

Speaking of Snider, $3 was pretty good for this card of Snider making a leaping catch in the LA Coliseum. The back of the card makes light of Ebbets Field as a "bandbox". I'll have to remember that the next time a Dodgers blogger takes a shot at the new Yankee Stadium.

$7 for a '54 Whitey Ford is not bad. For a Yankee HOFer his cards are surprisingly cheap.

$2 probably a bit high for this card, but it's a good one.

$3 for a '68 Maris with a hole in his head. I must have a hole in my head.

$17 for two Post cards of Maris from his time as the HR champ. The '62 is the magazine insert, which is good enough for me.

$11 may be a bit high, but after all it is Clemente. The picture looks very sharp and vibrant in person.

By comparison this one was a steal at $2, considering Koufax, Drysdale and a fantastic Polo Ground shot with lots of apartment buildings visible behind.

I guess I'm really enjoying the multiplayer cards. $7 was probably too much for this but I really like the photo (painting?).

Still grabbing cheap commons when I can. These two combined were $0.38. Needed Klimchock, already had Daley.
