The front: Close-cropped action pose in spring training.
Simple, but effective.
The back: Everyone talks about Rich Hebner being a
gravedigger; nobody talks about Jerry Garvin being one too.
The player: Garvin was the first Blue Jays star, as in April
of 1977 he became the first rookie with four wins in April. He also set an
unofficial record for pickoffs with 26. The fast start proved to be a mirage,
however; Garvin ended the season 10-18 and overall, in his six year career (all
with Toronto), he was just 20-41 with a 4.43 ERA.
The man: Garvin was a realtor for many years but now appears
to be involved in the import/export industry.
My collection: I have 12 of his cards, from 1978 to 1983. I
would be interested in trading for 1982 O-Pee-Chee #264.
