The front: This is an error card – this is Jeff Cox’s only
Topps card and it is a picture of Steve McCatty! Fortunately he also had a
Donruss card in ’81 so he was able to have a major league card with his photo
on it.
The back: Cox’s 68 steals were 26 more than runner-up Luis Silverio.
Lou Whitaker was third with 38.
The player: Cox had a brief major league career; after his
59 games with Oakland in 1980, he would appear in just two more in 1981,
without another at-bat.
The man: After Cox’s brief MLB playing career, he has gone
on to a long MLB coaching career. He has coached in the majors for the Marlins,
Pirates and White Sox and is now the baserunning specialist for the Tigers.
My collection: I have two of his cards, 1981 Donruss and
1981 Topps. I would be interested in trading for 1981 TCMA Tacoma Tigers #19.
