1989 Spokane Indians at the Mall - Bruce Bochy

Catcher Bruce Bochy played for the Astros, Mets and Padres from 1978 to 1987. In 358 games he hit .298 with 26 HR and 93 RBI. After playing a year at AAA in 1988, Bochy made his managerial debut with Spokane in 1989. Six years later he was named manager of the Padres, and in 1998 he led them to the World Series. In 2007 he moved to San Francisco and he has won three world championships with the Giants, an impressive postseason accomplishment for a manager with very pedestrian regular season numbers (.505 career winning percentage - .494 in SD, .517 in SF).

There is not much online regarding University Pipe Square. But how awesome is it that Bruce Bochy's first managerial card has him in a pipe shop with King Henry VIII looking over his shoulder?

  1. I remember that pipe shop from my childhood! Smelled so good in the University City Mall!
