Cards from the Cleveland Baseball Cards giveaway

The ever-generous David of Cleveland Baseball Cards had a very generous giveaway a while back. We could pick three teams and he stuffed a big box of cards representing those teams.

I got mine yesterday, and it's been a lot of fun to go through.

I got the most cards for the #3 team I picked. I went with the Giants, really just because that's the name of my favorite football team.

There were a lot of cards that one might call "bulk wax" - not junk but cards from sets that we see all the time.

Lots of standout cards in that mix, however. Some interesting photos, stars and unique card subjects.
Variety went from cut-out Scoremasters boxes to an autograph and a refractor.
The best thing about getting Giants are all the stars, like Mays, McCovey and Bonds. Getting a Joe Garagiola card is a lot less common, and I might have been most excited about that one.
My #2 team, my NL team, is the Cardinals, and they were well represented.
Some highlights include more old-time Hall-of-Famers, shiny refractors and foil cards, and another autograph.
My #1 team is the Yankees, certainly my favorite part of the box.
Lots of great cards of Yankee favorites past and present. The Jeter card might be my favorite, it's both see-through and shiny.
I really liked the Action Packed cards too, they have some great photos of players who didn't get much in the way of action shots for their career. My favorite for sure is the Bobby Richardson double-play card at the old Metropolitan Stadium in Minnesota. I believe that may be Zoilo Versalles on the ground.
This was a really fun box of cards to go through, and there were well over 100 cards that I needed for my collection. Some of the dupes have already gone out to others. Thanks David!

  1. Cool.

I don't know who my three would be. Phillies of course, but I don't root for the A's or Padres anymore. My Mariners interest was short-lived with the local minor league team moving after this season.

  3. Same, it's wild how many giveaways I've seen hosted by bloggers I've never heard of. Guess they don't post or comment much.. or maybe I've just missed them somehow over the past 8 years lol.

  4. Yankees are #1 (right?). Giants were #3. Who's #2?

Giants would be #3 for me as well... behind the A's and Padres.

  5. I love the Action Packed cards. I've thought about getting a box of those multiple times in recent years, but potentially getting a box full of bricked packs has kept me from pulling the trigger on one.

  6. Good stuff and very generous. I got my box of Angels/Rangers/Expos a week or so ago. Still need to post about it.

  7. lol, on folks not knowing Dave of Tribe Cards. He's one of the OG's. I know he doesn't post a lot and hasn't for years, but he was definitely a regular here.

My box showed last week, hope to get to it on the blog this week.
