Brett Kay on baseball cards

Catcher Brett Kay played four seasons in the Mets organization. His best season was 2001, when he hit .311 with 5 HR and 18 RBI for the Brooklyn Cyclones. Overall in 215 minor league games he hit .255 with 15 HR and 64 RBI. Since 2006 he has been the Head Baseball Coach at JSerra Catholic High School in San Juan Capistrano, CA, considered one of the best prep college baseball programs in the country. He kindly answered my questions about baseball cards.

- Do you have any stories about cards of yourself or of other players? Oh gosh.  Just getting back into it with my son and love seeing how crazy the card world is now. It was my favorite hobby growing up with my brother and the collecting aspect of it all. Lord only knows where those cards are out now.
- Do you have a favorite card of yourself or of another player? The Cal Ripken rookie was always a favorite, but mine in 2001 is my favorite to share with my boys.

- Do you collect baseball cards? 10000% I love it. Now back into it.

Thanks!

  1. It's good to hear stories like this where people are exposing card collecting to kids. Maybe he's one of those cool coaches that hands out packs of cards to his players.

  2. It seems like there's an awful lot of current players, as well as still relatively young former players, who are collecting these days.
