Cards and vintage things: McCrory

The first McCrory store opened in the Philadelphia area in 1882. By the 1950s the company was a national chain of five-and-dime stores under various names, often with soda fountains and lunch counters where menu sheets like this one would be used. This one dates from around 1958.

I remember hearing of McCrory when I first started collecting baseball cards; many of the Fleer boxed sets at the time were McCrory exclusives, though they did not have the company name or logo on the cards or boxes.

Pinched by competition from stores like Walmart and Target, the company dissolved in 2002.
