Hobbies are hunting and golf: Here is a video of Eldred and
his son explaining how they bond through hunting.
Favorite sports announcer is Bob Uecker: Bob Uecker’s first game back after heart surgery in 1991 was Cal Eldred’s major league debut.
Favorite player as a kid was Johnny Bench: I don’t know if
Eldred grew up a Reds fan – he lived in an area without a major league team
nearby (Iowa) and the Big Red Machine was one of the premier major league teams
when he was a kid.
Might have been a teacher if he hadn’t been an athlete:
Eldred’s children were home-schooled, so to that extent I suppose he was a
teacher.
Pet peeve is people who don’t work hard: Pretty standard.
Where he is now: Assistant to the General Manager for the
Kansas City Royals.
