Player Profile: Dell Alston

I have four cards of Dell Alston. This one is from 1978 Topps.

Playing career: Dell Alston came up with the Yankees in 1977. He played in 25 games for the Bombers before being traded to Oakland for Gary Thomasson. He was a career .238 hitter, made seven errors in 108 games in the outfield, and was thrown out stealing in 21 out of 41 attempts.

Where he is now. He is a retiree who volunteers at Our Daily Bread, a Maryland homeless services organization.

My memories: He was before my time.

Interesting facts: Cousin of former Rockies pitcher Garvin Alston.

Google Autocomplete results: He is first when you type Dell Als, ahead of Dell ALSA Driver, an audio driver for Dell computers. There do not appear to be any other prominent Dell Alstons.

Coming up next: The next profile will be Garvin Alston.
