Old school baseball

Cam Schlittler has been a nice surprise for the Yankees this year. The guy with the funny name had been quietly having one solid start after another, kind of under the radar. Not under the radar anymore. Last night he was looking like Andy Pettitte, maybe even Ron Guidry. Though a righty of course. Eight innings of shutout baseball! Hopefully it's not a fluke.

I don't have any Schlittler cards so how about one of former Mets phenom Amed Rosario. He hadn't done much with the Yankees before yesterday, but now he can say that he drove in the winning run in the deciding game of a playoff series for the Yankees. That four-run fourth, all on singles, shows the importance of hitting for contact, not just swinging as hard as you can for launch angle. The defense can't misplay a strikeout. When the other team is keeping you in the ballpark, you need another way to win. Maybe the Yankees are finally learning that lesson.

  1. Schlittler put on a clinic yesterday. It was truly amazing to watch.
It's nice to see the Yankees willing to adapt to the situation of the game. That's a good skill to have in the postseason.

  2. I'm not upset about yesterday. The best team won. The future is bright in Boston though, and I believe this series is just the start of something special...
