Standing guard over a busy Long Island street is a 30-pound Parrott Rifle that was used on the USS Hartford during the Civil War.
The plaque reads;
CIVIL WAR TROPHY GUN
30 pdr. Parrott Rifle 240 From USS Hartford
Presented to the Village of Freeport by the United States Navy Department
Mounted July 4, 1902
I had no idea that was there! How close is it to the Freeport Rec Center? I attend a scale model show there occasionally, although not since 2008, so it's been a while.
