Player Profile: James Baldwin

I have 20 cards of James Baldwin. This one is from 1995 Topps.

Playing career: James Baldwin was a starting pitcher for the White Sox, Dodgers and Mariners from 1995 to 2002, then spent three years as a reliever for four teams. His best season was 2000, when he helped the White Sox win the AL Central by going 14-7 with a 4.65 ERA.

My memories: I remembered him as the ace of the White Sox staff in the nineties. I was surprised at just how bad his numbers were – in 184 games with Chicago, he had a 5.04 ERA.

Where he is now: Pitching coach at Pinecrest High School in North Carolina.

Interesting facts: His son James Baldwin III is an outfielder in the Dodgers organization, ranked as their number nine prospect.

Google Autocomplete results: He is tenth when you type James B, behind James Blake, a tennis player. There are no references to the baseball player on the first page when you google James Baldwin. All of them refer to the author.

Coming up next: The next profile will be Jeff Baldwin.

  1. Not sure how to contact you otherwise, but saw your entry on Noe Munoz from 2011. I was wondering if you'd share the address you used to contact him (if it is still good) or better yet, is your card for trade/sale, as I don't have the card to send him for a signature.
