I have two cards of Willy Aybar. This one is from 2006 Topps Update Highlights.
Playing career: Infielder Willy Aybar played parts of five
seasons in the major leagues, mostly for the Dodgers and Rays. His
once-promising career was derailed by injuries and legal troubles.
Interesting stories: Aybar has had many problems with drugs
and alcohol, and (relatedly) has been arrested several times for domestic
violence, serving prison time after one incident left his wife in the ICU.
Where he is now: He signed to play in the Mexican League in
2012.
My memories: Was vaguely aware of him during his career but
no specific memories. Don’t remember hearing about his legal issues.
Google Autocomplete results: He is first when you type Willy
A, ahead of Willy and the Poor Boys, a Creedence Clearwater Revival album. There
do not appear to be any other prominent Willy Aybars.
